Despite climate-related challenges, the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol continues its upward trajectory in 2025, reporting an 18% increase in enrolled cotton acreage, now covering 2.58 million acres. Participation among cotton growers also rose by 14%, with 1,512 producers now engaged in the voluntary sustainability program.
Built to promote environmentally responsible cotton farming, the Trust Protocol offers growers data-driven tools and a traceable system that help assess environmental impact, improve farm practices, and boost productivity. It gives global fashion brands confidence in sourcing U.S. cotton that’s both measurable and verifiably sustainable.
Executive Director Daren Abney emphasized that this growth not only showcases farmer commitment to sustainability but also enhances sourcing opportunities for global brands navigating economic and environmental pressures.
With over 2,500 mill and manufacturer members and more than 45 leading brands—including Ralph Lauren, Gap, Levi’s, Carhartt, J.Crew, and Urban Outfitters—onboard, the Trust Protocol continues to play a key role in the global sustainable textile movement.
